What’s up guys! It’s Chris Majestic here with Majestechs. You remember a few months ago I did a review on the Ring Stick Up Cam. Today with me I have what’s called the Ring Solar Panel. This is going to be an accessory for the Stick Up Cam so we’re going to go ahead and check this thing out today so stay tuned. So if you haven’t already go ahead and check out the Stick Up Cam review I did a few months ago. I went into detail in that review. I’m not going to go into too much detail about the Stick Up Cam here but just really quickly. It’s basically a surveillance camera. They call it the Stick Up Cam because it’s battery-operated and it’s wireless, it’s going to connect to Wifi and you can put it wherever you want. The only real downside was that it didn’t have Live video on-demand. Most people would just expect to go on your phone to view the live video feed to see what’s going on. The Stick Up Cam wouldn’t allow that before. It would remain in standby mode until it sensed motion, then it would connect to Wifi, and then push the video. They did this to conserve battery life since a constant Wifi connection would put a strain on the battery. However, through a recent firmware update earlier this year Ring released Live View for the Stick Up Cam, and to address the possible issues with battery life, they introduced the Ring Solar Panel. So the solar panel is going to keep it constantly powered because it’s getting sunlight during the day and charging it at night, which allows you to have constant power so you don’t drain your battery. The price of the Solar Panel is a separate $49 so you’re looking at around $248 to get both of these together. Even though it is connected to Wifi now and you have Live View, the only downside is that it does take a little while for the video to pop up once you hit the Live View button. In my case, in most instances it took about 15 seconds, sometimes a little bit longer. So that’s something they’ll probably fix in the future but right now it does take a little while for it to come up so you have to be patient with it. As far as the design goes it’s a pretty basic solar panel design. It’s just going to come with a little slot for you to slide the mount into it and the mount is going to have a couple of screw holes for you to mount it to a wall. It also comes with a non-removable micro-usb cable that has a little rubber piece on the end to help make it weather-resistant. And just like the Ring Doorbell and the Stick Up Cam the Solar Panel is covered for theft. That was one of the major selling points for me, especially putting it somewhere where it can easily be reached. This is definitely a one-of-a-kind camera on the market here. It was already one-of-a-kind to begin with but now you can just put up the Solar Panel right along side it and you can put it wherever you want and not have to worry about it. Has 2.4 A high speed charging. Like most of recent chargers it can handle iPads so I’m in and iphones, androids. So it is fully compatible with the majority of devices on the market today. This includes Galaxy, samsung. How they get this much punch is the newer battery technology that you can read about all over the net. Has nice rubber material surrounding it so it can take some abuse. These units are starting to remind me of Dewalt tools as far as exterior.

24000mAh high capacity is excellent for being away from power without having to lug around something that has weight to it. If you’re a hiker/camper you know exactly what I’m talking about. Also with these newer lightweight models that can actually store a charge you will start taking them to places with power but may just use this when the plugs are already in use. For example a crowded coffee house, you have some time and notice your iPhone is going dead, just plug it in.

I would say the wall outlet is going to be the way to charge this unit fast but it does charge with sunlight. As an example in emergencies where there is no power or you don’t want to use your car’s energy. But I would look at this as solar is used for keeping it topped off as they say not starting from scratch unless you have no choice. It will be like every other solar panel unless you get in to the expensive ones.

Things like the level of brightness will come in to play. You can’t overcharge the unit, has those bases covered which most things today I hope does. It also has short circuit protection which is nice. Goes in to “auto stop” when you reach a full charge. Which lets the unit live longer from less heat being generated.

In looking over the reviews there’s one that I really like. First of all the person is familiar with what the charger is capable of and he’s already has 3 other brands of various output capabilities. He’s not expecting to charge the whole house just the power sucking devices like phones, laptops, etc.

what’s up guys happy Friday to you well as you can see from the video I’m going to do a kind of a quick review here on my brand new anchor solar charger that I got two days ago from Prime right now obviously I’m taping this video here with my iPhone but I just wanted to kind of give some props to this thing and a half-assed little review I mean there’s a lot of reviews on this thing already but what you basically get or what this basically is is a USB charger that accepts any USB cable which goes right in here see that little it’s just a little plastic receiver that they put in here and this is like a canvas material like a really durable canvas material but what they do they have a two USB ports where you can charge on each side and then it’s got like a little pocket here really cool so you could technically take your you know your phone or whatever and put it in that pocket keep it protected from the Sun and what it does is it takes a obviously sunrays converts them into electrical energy and then stores it into whatever battery you have plugged into the anchor unit so obviously my phone’s plugged into this so it’s putting power into the battery that’s sitting here into the iPhone just to give you a quick stat iPhone was a 10 percent when I came out here show you the Sun let’s see there’s my fenceline there’s the Sun you can see that it’s obviously well yeah obviously it’s five o’clock right now so I’m about to lose my son this was a 10 percent when I plugged it in about six minutes ago seven minutes ago it’s at 14% now so it’s gaining about five percent every five minutes a 1% a minute which is pretty awesome it’s a 14 volt solar charger so I believe it puts out that’s the one spec I should know I think it’s putting out four or five volts um yeah actually that’s a technical spec I’m going to put in the bottom I’m not sure how many I know it’s a 14 volt charger maybe it’s putting out 14 volts here but I don’t know got it I got to check the specs on that but um other than that this is the one that’s about 50 bucks on Amazon and what it does folds up like that folds up like that and then there it is to be able to be put away and it’s about the size of a sheet of paper so it’s got these really cool hooks on it so you can hook it up to a pack or whatever and then get charging capability out of it so that’s what’s kind of going on and you’ll see it’s Friday here so got me a favorite beer highligh bossa unsweet tea and this is my other newest latest coolest toy which is the Bose Soundlink mini which is a basically a portable USB bluetooth speaker so what I do is I come out here put the tunes on on the back of the truck hang out with the dogs just kind of enjoy being outside so this Bluetooth speaker was about 200 bucks it’s kind of built the same way like Apple creates their stuff with the aluminum case and I put some felt feet up on the bottom of mine so I don’t damage the bottom but this thing throws some serious sound for a tiny little speaker I mean there’s a there’s a can a beer and you can kind of see the size it’s pretty badass sounds a lot better than the beats pill when I listen to both of them together but that’s strictly opinion but yeah this is my little outside rig here so basically I use my phone I Bluetooth it to the Bose with you know pan door or whatever on and now I can finally keep my phone charged out here without damn thing dying on me because I got a really crappy iPhone 4s with a really old battery so yeah guys that’s my little review on the anchor solar charger and again don’t quote me on the on the voltage output I’m not sure if it’s just 5 volts or if it’s all 14 or what so check that on the specs but yeah happy Friday guys see ya

If you’re into mobile gaming like Pokeman Go you will find out fast that being able to charge on the go is needed. Especially away from the auto. Some of those games will suck an iphone dead in no time at all especially at the height of the game. There are charging stations but sometimes being able to do it where you want is the ticket.

I usually stick to solar panels but sometimes during game time the sun is not out to the point that a stand alone panel system will work. Some of the solar chargers for iphones double for other uses like when bright lights and other useful options are built in.

I used to love doing projects like this. There’s good info in this video on how he went about it. Of course if you’re in a hurry you can always get an ipod solar charger pretty cheap like the ones above but sometimes it’s cool to just build a small project.

hey guys so for my next project I’ve decided to build a solar USB charger which should charge on anything that plugs into a USB your phones iPods mp3 players tablets and all that stuff on and i obviously haven’t built it yet so I figured I make a little how-to video explaining on how to assemble one for yourself so on the first component is obviously your solar panel which I got an ebay for fifteen dollars free shipping which is pretty good it’s a nine volts 3.3 wats about . for amps so on because it’s nine volts and USB is 5 volts you need something called a a voltage regulator which is right here my camera wants to focus here we go so on down here on your bottom left is going to be your voltage input so the nine volts from the solar panel goes in here on the left and it goes through here and then as it travels through its going to come back out over here on the right the right prom and it’s going to be 5 volts so this basically converts on your DC voltage from anything above 50 to like I think like 30 or something like that to 5 volts then your Center just your ground and on so obviously you have to have something with female USB so I’m just took a gun from radioshack ones like to housing box forearm like it’s triple or double a batteries and I just on took my dremel and like smooth it all out on the inside made some room then I already went ahead and put a female USB there which if it wants to focus there we go so on your bottom left over here on use for little prongs inside your bottom left one is going to be on your ground so when you’re negative and then the middle to our just data which you don’t need to wear anything don’t worry about those because we’re not transfer data were just transferring power and then your for Walker one only on the right that’s where you’re on 5 volts is so if you look at the problems the problems pretty much correspond you have you know this prong matches up with you know this down here since this is your ground and then all over here is your 5 volts so you notice that and grab some you know some wire some solder some heat-shrink tubing and on so i’m going to go ahead and solder the voltage regulator to the on us being here and also after that’s done ok so just finished up with the soldering and going to figure out run you guys through it just to make sure you fully understand so over here you have the nine volts DC coming in from the panel travels along this red wire and down into the enclosure on up to the left prom of the voltage regulator so it comes in here 9 volts goes to the regulator comes out over here as five bolts and travels along this wire down here and hooks up to the right prom of the USB female USB its kind of artists tell me that so you have to have connects right here on the right problem and members of these two middle problems are being used because their data and we’re transferring data and so the positives that right problem and then you have the ground for the negative which goes to the left problem and you see here because you have you because you have negative for your own voltage regulator I haven’t split up here into to put into waters you have one wire goes to the ground or negative on the voltage regulator and the other thick black wire here thinks all through here it comes out the enclosure and then just goes to the negative of the pal so that’s pretty much it but the wiring girls in case you want to see you know print out or take a picture whatever and don’t use it as a makeshift diagram on is pretty basic wiring nothing too complicated so I’m just going to close at the enclosure now and it’s not right now but tomorrow I’m gonna hook up to my phone mp3 player and voltmeter and see how it works so I got the solar panel working i finally got a day where Sonny outs been raining the past like three days but it’s a Christmas morning actually so I just got hooked up to my phone and the sun’s going in and out a little so you can see the red light up here in discharging so it’s you know is working to put morning song the trees but uh I figured I’d doesn’t charge ipods which are I think has to do something with apple’s proprietary proprietary stubbornness in not allowing any like I like aftermarket stuff going on i think i looked up online i think it’s a pretty easy fix things have to mess around with the the female USB I think put a resistor something and I’m not sure though his little bro quick last night put on so yes I mean charging it will charge pretty much anything besides ipods right now just because Apple I don’t know apples Apple but on the charges my phone charging my sisters are she’s a verizon like envy and are so short and you’re looking a little USB stuff you have I don’t even have some people you know USB lights for their what kind of contradictory is already in the Sun if you a solar panel but arm it works the one thing I am kind of worried about is when we were working when I put the arm voltage regulator in here arm it has a heatsink on it and this is this is plastic the little enclosure so I’m wondering if the heatsink it’s warm enough to melt the plastic or something I don’t know I’ve never I’ve never used on the voltage regulators before so that’s some testing I have to do I have to wait for a sunny your day is right now it’s kind of cloudy out and something going in and out so i’m going to get a day and you know just make sure and have it out here in the sun for an hour to just to make sure that the little heat sink inside here on the voltage regulator doesn’t get too hot and look plastic but you know right now is working good so think about building like a little like neoprene case or maybe a little phone case or something and you know I cannot know it’ll handle in a little handle on a second carried around and you put it in my of bags when I bring the beach or whatever mean I make it a little more sturdy but yeah it works good so thanks for watching a comment
